So What’s This Free Minicourse All About?

Believe it or not, until a few years ago there were only two options available for female professional musicians: 1) Working the grind doing the bar circuit, restaurants, festivals and corporate events,

or

2) Cross your fingers and pray to get signed by a record company. On one hand, gigging for a living allows you to be musically authentic but offers very little money. On the other hand, getting signed has been compared to someone winning the lottery twice or being hit by lightning. And not only that, if you’re  in the music business long enough, you will without a doubt hear horror stories of the chosen few: those “fortunate” musicians who actually did get signed end up giving away all their musical freedoms and copywriting rights. Many of them with starry eyes found themselves completely controlled by big record companies who left them with huge debts (sometimes in the hundreds of thousands of dollars). These disillusioned artists left the scene broke, as record executives filled their pockets – and built their mansions – at the artists’ expense.

“Did you know that most signed artists see less than a dollar per CD? The majority of their royalties go towards paying off the debt to their record label.

Not only that but often talented female artists would get signed only to be upstaged by other well-funded signed women who used sex and formulated pop songs to stay in the limelight. The authentic and gifted women were disregarded by their own labels because they refused to compromise. Oftentimes these artists ended up in court fighting an expensive and losing battle. (If you were wondering where your favorite female singer disappeared to, chances are the scenario above  applies). Fortunately for you, there is a third option.  Drum roll please…

The Indie Artist!!

Female musicians all over the globe are making history as they take control of their own careers.  Marketing and promotion, with its huge expense used to be reserved only for big record companies. Since the Internet, savvy female indie artists are seizing the opportunity to promote themselves inexpensively.

“Many record companies have folded up or become skeleton corporations because they are unable to compete with the indie artist scene. They are scratching their heads trying to figure out how they can keep afloat while the power has shifted back to the people who rightfully deserve it – The Indie Artists.”

At the same time they’re making a great living and maintaining authenticity in their music.  They’re not having to compromise their image to look like a glam doll or be pigeon-holed in a music style that isn’t theirs. In other words they are having their cake and eating it too and not giving one crumb to greedy record companies. No longer do you have to compromise your music.  No longer do you have to depend on sneaky A&R guys who have an alternative agenda up their sleeve. You too can learn how to harness your talent and steer your career in the direction you desire without compromise or regret.
